Freddie Potts medical scheduled as plans change over West Ham exit

Freddie Potts is due to undergo a medical with Club Brugge ahead of leaving West Ham United on a permanent basis.

Potts, 22, played 22 times in the Premier League last season as the Hammers were relegated to the Championship.

Out of those games, he earned 12 starts, but was used sparingly by Nuno Espirito Santo after a red card against Burton Albion in the FA Cup in February.

Now, it seems like West Ham have jumped on the chance to make pure profit on their former academy ace, who's only ever played 28 times in total for the Irons first team.

According to reliable Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who works for Sky Sports in Switzerland, Potts is on the verge of joining Club Brugge for £10.2million.

But there's apparently been a change of plan in how the London-born midfielder will seal his move.

West Ham Zone has already covered Tavolieri's story that Potts has given the green light to join Club Brugge this summer.

He then reported on Saturday that the soon-to-be-former West Ham midfielder will arrive at the Belgian club on that same day.

However, on Sunday afternoon, Tavolieri issued an update on his X account saying that Potts will now hook up with Brugge on Sunday evening.

It is understood that he'll then undergo a medical with Brugge on Monday.

Potts will become the fifth player West Ham have sold since being relegated to the Championship, after Krisztian Hegyi (Sparta Prague), Mateus Fernandes (Tottenham), Crysencio Summerville (Al-Hilal) and Callum Marshall (Luton).

With the £10.2m fee for selling Potts included, West Ham have now made well over £150m in player sales since being relegated.

However, that doesn't for one second mean that the East London giants have that much cash to burn in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

West Ham's season starts in just a few days when they take on Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup and zero new players have been signed.

Potential selling clubs know that the Hammers have plenty of cash but financial restrictions and the current wages players are on mean that spending money on what will be inflated fees isn't easy.

AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott is apparently an option for Nuno, but any deal is likely to be expensive for a club that's facing a potential financial crisis if they don't sell more players before the summer is up.
