Freddie Potts transfer officially agreed

West Ham have now agreed a deal with Club Brugge to sell Potts.

Mike McGrath has now reported that the deal will be worth up to £10.2million to replace Raphael Onyedika.

The Telegraph journalist states that Belgian sources expect Potts to miss the pre-season friendly against FC Magdeburg.

Being a boyhood Hammer, it's sad to see a move appear to go through so quickly on the eve of the new season.

West Ham have serious issues

Looking at the Irons' midfield in the 0-0 draw with Rangers last week, Potts leaving is really strange.

Keiber Lamadrid, James Ward-Prowse and Mohamadou Kante all started in a midfield three.

Potts came off the bench with George Earthy and Lewis Orford too, so there's a real lack of experience available right now.

The Englishman has been there and done it in the Championship, too, starring for Portsmouth, so his experience could have been vital.

Even just having him in the squad, not even to start every week, would have made complete sense for Nuno.

Instead, West Ham are just another body down in a critical area.

Nils Koppens must have some serious transfer plans in place already to sanction this exit, or he'll have just left the Hammers seriously behind.

It's all well and good keeping players like Bowen, but if you can't build a serious squad around him, then what hope do West Ham have of earning promotion back to the Premier League.
