Tomáš Souček stance on West Ham United exit emerges amid big-money contract news

West Ham United star Tomáš Souček is keen to fight for his place at the London Stadium, according to GiveMeSport.

The news outlet reported online (19 August) that the Czech Republic international is eager to remain with the Hammers and compete for a place under Julen Lopetegui.

As reported by The Daily Mirror (15 August, page 52), West Ham would need to sell Souček to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler.

However, the midfielder still has three years remaining on his £90,000-per-week contract, with his wages a potential stumbling block for any club interested in the 29-year-old.

West Ham United to sell midfielder Tomáš Souček?

It looks as if the Hammers find themselves in a bit of a tricky situation.

Whether or not Lopetegui is keen to keep hold of Souček remains unclear. However, the midfielder starting against Aston Villa in the Premier League (18 August) suggests he is still on the manager’s radar.

However, even if the 57-year-old does want to get rid of Souček, it looks as though it won’t be easy.

The long-term Hammer is earning a comfortable wage at the London Stadium, which probably partly explains why he is in no rush to leave the club.

In addition, he still has three years left on that deal, which means he will be even less likely to seek a departure.

As a result, it looks as though the club could struggle to find a buyer for the player, even if they do actively look to try and sell him.

Therefore, Lopetegui might be better off trying to find room for Souček in his squad.
