West Ham United are locked in talks with Tomas Soucek over a new contract.

The midfielder is on his way back for the Hammers, and featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wycombe Wanderers over the break.

The 31-year-old got himself on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win, which was his first game since suffering a thigh injury with the Czech Republic at the World Cup.

Many see Soucek as a hero at the London Stadium, helping score clutch goals for the Irons for many years, and lifting the Europa Conference League trophy in 2023.

Nuno Espirito Santo is excited at the prospect of Soucek returning, with the Czech expected to be in the squad to face Queen's Park Rangers on Friday.

But with West Ham now in talks with Soucek over a new deal, who else could sign a new contract after him?

Summer signing and 124-app West Ham man

Soucek reportedly wants to stay at West Ham as he "loves" the club, with contract talks now ongoing.

His current deal with the Hammers is set to expire at the end of the season, but there are also several other players who could depart the London Stadium next summer.

Joel Veltman was signed for free by West Ham after he left Brighton on a free contract.

The centre-back could leave on a free transfer yet again next summer, but the Irons do hold an option to extend his deal for another year.

This would most likely have to be a mutual agreement, which may depend on whether the club get promoted or not.

Alphonse Areola has been at West Ham for over five years, and has made 124 appearances for the Hammers in that time.

The goalkeeper has been highly rated by several managers in E20, but does not seem to be on the same page with Nuno right now.

The 33-year-old's deal is set to expire at the end of the season, but like Veltman, West Ham hold the option to extend his deal by another 12 months.

This will be dependent on whether Areola can work his way back into the West Ham squad and accept being the back-up option, with Mads Hermansen currently favoured in between the sticks.

West Ham starter to demand new deal

Konstantinos Mavropanos' deal expires in the summer of 2028, and will be entering the final year of his contract at the end of the season.

If the Greece international helps the Hammers get promoted, he will surely demand a new contract to stay.

If they are to get promoted, he will play a huge role.

The 28-year-old has already played a crucial part for Nuno this season, scoring a whopping four goals in seven games in the Championship so far.

Alternatively, if West Ham are top of the table in January, there may be some interested clubs sniffing around, the same as in the summer transfer window.

Mavropanos could potentially sit down with the Irons ahead of the January window to discuss a new deal.

Terms could see him stay at the London Stadium for many more years, while it would be no surprise if a clause was inserted to make him available for cheaper, should West Ham fail to get promoted.
