Sullivan ‘to kickstart’ West Ham spending spree as £17m Stroeykens update shared

West Ham could begin their summer business with the signing of Mario Stroeykens from Anderlecht.

The Hammers are in need of a positive window after the failings of the campaign just gone, where Graham Potter failed to have the desired impact.

Now the head coach gets to have his say on the incoming members of his squad, despite already missing out on Angel Gomes to Marseille.

It is clear that attention has already turned away from the Englishman, with Stroeykens emerging as a target on their ever-growing shortlist.

West Ham want £17m-rated Stroeykens

There is a general shortage of progressive midfield options available in claret and blue right now, which won’t suit the ex-Brighton boss.

Throughout his time at the AMEX, the Englishman was famed for an attractive style of play which turned defence into attack very quickly.

That isn’t necessarily possible with this current Irons squad with the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek involved.

As a result, the addition of young and dynamic midfield options could prove to be wise moving deeper into the window.

This has seen talkSPORT report (24 June) that the Hammers want Anderlecht midfielder Stroeykens, who is said to be valued at £17million this summer.

The Belgium youth international fits the bill for the young up-and-coming players that the E20 club are targeting, having played for the national team up to under-21 level.

This could see David Sullivan begin the window in positive fashion with the first signing of many, with the midfielder who was given his debut by Vincent Kompany as a 16-year-old in 2021.

Sullivan could push through Stroeykens deal at West Ham

There is no doubt that the Hammers chairman has work to do in order to prove to Potter why he should stick around in East London.

After splashing the cash for Julen Lopetegui last summer, he has to show that same commitment to the ex-Chelsea boss this time around.

This could see Stroeykens come through the door from Anderlecht after five years in the first team of the Belgian giants.

That could prove to be the perfect start to the window, a deal that could give the Irons a perfect starting ground in which to build at the London Stadium.
