Steven Bergwijn responds to West Ham United interest in new transfer admission
Former Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn has responded directly to transfer links with West Ham one of the teams reportedly interested in signing the Ajax star.
Ajax have endured a torrid season so far which has seen them sitting eighth in the league and a number of their star players being linked to January transfers away.
The Hammers were linked with a move for the winger by Dutch outlet De Telegraaf [24 November], who reported that they had joined Saudi Arabian clubs in their pursuit.
Fabrizio Romano shared the quotes via his Twitter account [26 November] as the Dutchman revealed: “You should ask my agent… Leaving Ajax in January? In football, you can never rule out anything. But I am happy here, I have my children and family here.”
A move could be on the cards
Bergwijn could be handed a second crack of the whip in the Premier League with West Ham looking to strengthen their attacking options after injuries to Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio exposed a lack of depth in the forward department.
His ability to play across the front line could prove vital to the Hammers to cover for any injuries or rotation that will take place throughout the season, while he would add a bit of quality and direct play to the attack that is sometimes lacking.
He has largely played on the left-hand side for Ajax, but much like Bowen at the London Stadium, he is capable of playing through the middle as a central striker if the situation calls for it.

Despite the Dutch club’s woes so far this season, Bergwijn has managed to score six goals and provide two assists in 11 appearances, a fantastic record in spite of the underperforming players around him and the poor league position they have found themselves in.
