Southampton eye deadline-busting transfer for West Ham ace Danny Ings
Southampton could make a late move for Danny Ings from West Ham United in the winter transfer window, according to David Anderson.
The Daily Mirror journalist mooted on his personal X account (2 February) that the Saints could re-sign the 32-year-old in the coming hours as the Hammers look to sign Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton.
As things stand, the Irons are advancing in talks for the Seagulls centre-forward ahead of the 3 February deadline [Fabrizio Romano, 2 February].
West Ham United to sanction Danny Ings deadline day transfer?
Ings has been a bit-part player at the East London club this season, and it would make sense for him to leave for regular game time elsewhere.
Graham Potter has preferred Lucas Paqueta as his starting number nine over the 32-year-old, which goes to show how far down the pecking order he is.
With the arrival of Ferguson, it would seemingly be even more difficult for the veteran centre-forward to get regular minutes at the London Stadium.
The Brighton striker will evidently go straight into the starting lineup at the Hammers as Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio are on the sidelines.
West Ham could likely sanction Ings’ sale, but it would be prudent to keep a hold of him until the summer, considering their lack of options in the number nine position.

The Irons need to arguably maintain depth in their squad, and the 32-year-old may well play an essential role for them until the end of the season.
Potter has had a mixed start in the London Stadium dugout and will potentially need all the tools at his disposal to end the camping on a high note.
Southampton could do with someone like Ings as they fight relegation, but the East London club arguably need his services as well.
