Souffian El Karouani to West Ham could be on after what defender has publicly said

West Ham United are set for a vitally important January transfer window as they look to maintain their Premier League status.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are in real danger of being cut adrift from safety, after a run of six top-flight games without a win.

Erling Haaland scored a brace on Saturday as West Ham were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, with Tijjani Reijnders also on the scoresheet for the hosts.

Now, the Hammers are working hard to reinforce their squad ahead of the second half of the season, in preparation for a survival charge.

West Ham work on Souffian El Karouani signing

West Ham are reportedly working on a deal to sign Moroccan left-back Souffian El Karouani from FC Utrecht.

The 25-year-old is having a superb season in the Netherlands, and played the full 90 minutes on Sunday as Utrecht were beaten 2-1 by PSV.

Speaking to RTV Utrecht after the game, El Karouani praised West Ham before hinting that a move was being worked on in the background.

When asked about the Hammers, he said: “It’s a great club. My agent goes to work for me. I’ll wait.”

El Karouani already has nine Eredivisie assists for Utrecht this season, as well as two goals to his name.

The full-back is well into the final year of his contract in the Netherlands, so the Hammers may be able to agree a cut-price deal to bring him to the London Stadium.

West Ham working on other deals

As well as a left-back, West Ham are desperate to sign a new centre-forward in the January transfer window.

With Niclas Fullkrug all set to join AC Milan on loan, Nuno needs a goalscoring replacement to help fire his side to safety.

West Ham have been linked with Jorgen Strand Larsen in recent weeks, but the Wolves man has struggled for form in the Premier League this season.

Chris Wood has also been touted as a potential option for the East London outfit.

West Ham do have Callum Wilson, who has already scored four Premier League goals this term, but Nuno is clearly not a big fan of the former Newcastle United man.

Hammers fans will hope their recruitment team make the right decision in January, and bring in a striker with a proven track record.
