Sky Sports detail who West Ham want to sign next with one deal all but done

West Ham are already edging closer to their first signing of the summer.

The Hammers are in desperate need of a positive window after such a frustrating campaign, ending in a 14th-place finish in the Premier League.

This saw Graham Potter fail to truly turn things around after coming in as head coach mid-way through the season at the London Stadium.

With that in mind, the coming months are going to be important in East London with business already set to kick off ahead of the window’s opening date.

West Ham edge closer to first summer signing

Although positivity was difficult to come by throughout the 2024/25 season, things could be set to change ahead of the new campaign.

The opportunity for the 50-year-old boss to have a telling impact on the squad in E20 could prove to be exactly what is needed.

This has to be better than the work of Tim Steidten, who failed to make the most of a sizable war chest in the most recent summer window.

As a result, the Hammers are looking to build a squad in Potter’s image ahead of the new season, which can only be seen as a positive.

This has seen Sky Sports report (1 June) that the Irons are on the verge of completing the signing of Daniel Cummings from Celtic, ready for the upcoming campaign.

The young striker isn’t the only forward wanted by the ex-Brighton boss, who is also said to be keen on another number nine signing this summer.

A central-midfielder option is also wanted, while the rest of the Hammers’ plans are being drawn up ready for the opening date of the window.

Cummings to kickstart West Ham transfer business

There is certainly a need for striker options in East London after failing to get the best out of a recognised number nine this season.

Michail Antonio’s accident saw him miss the rest of the season and left the Irons without the 35-year-old’s experience.

Injury issues also played a major role in derailing the debut campaign of Niclas Fullkrug after a previously stellar season with Borussia Dortmund.

As a result, the addition of Cummings can only be seen as a plus ahead of the new campaign, with the hope of the teenager breaking into the first team.

It will be interesting to see whether he can break into the first team and what transfer dealings come after his addition at the London Stadium.
