Simon Jordan: West Ham loan star Lingard could be used in player-plus-cash deal for Harry Kane
Ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan claims Manchester United could try using West Ham loan star Jesse Lingard as a bargaining chip to sign Harry Kane.
According to Sky Sports, Kane has told Spurs he wants to quit North London this summer and Man United, Man City and Chelsea have all been in touch with the striker’s representatives.
Sky Sports journalist Paul Gilmour reports the England captain is “valued at well over £120million” and Jordan claims clubs will try to offset that value by offering up players.
One way he thinks Man United could try to bring down the cost of signing Kane is to offer them Lingard in return.
“You can see some of this transfer burden being taken away by other players being thrown in the mix,” Jordan told the Jim White Show on talkSPORT.
“So Tottenham taking someone like Lingard in exchange for Harry Kane, plus £100million. Or x, y or z, or Anthony Martial – someone of that nature to plug the gap.
“You can see how the deal holds together but it still will be Tottenham extracting maximum value.”
Please, no
As brilliant a deal it was to sign Lingard on loan from Manchester United in January, you cannot help but feel West Ham slightly messed up by not including a permanent clause in the deal.
Lingard was always going to be someone who had the potential of shining in East London and while his form has dipped in the last couple of weeks, there’s no denying he’s been one of West Ham’s best players this season.
In total, the 28-year-old has scored nine goals and supplied four assists in 14 appearances for the Irons, which is absolutely phenomenal considering he had barely played all season before arriving in the capital.
Tottenham would probably want Lingard in their squad as they face a summer overhaul but would they be willing to accept him in part of a deal for Kane? That seems unlikely.
Man United may well try to use Lingard or anyone else in their squad to land the Tottenham goal machine and you can understand why.
But hopefully Lingard has a massive say in this and pushes for a permanent move to West Ham because he knows he can perform here and he does seem happy here.
