Simon Jordan feels West Ham United will struggle to keep up with pace of last season

Simon Jordan thinks it will be a tough task for West Ham to emulate their 2021/22 season but believes in David Moyes to take the club forward.

The Hammers have kicked off the season with two consecutive defeats but managed to pick up a win in the first leg of their Conference League play-off against Viborg.

Despite believing in Moyes, the talkSPORT pundit does think it will be hard for the Hammers to emulate their seventh-place finish from last season.

West Ham

Talking on talkSPORT White & Jordan [10:11, 19 August], he said: “Everyone is echoing the same sentiment when it comes to West Ham United and that is believing in David Moyes but saying West Ham are going to have a difficult emulating and keeping up with the pace of last season.

“I think that is the general consensus.”

Sixth is a possibility

Jordan is not the only pundit to predict a difficult season for the Hammers with his talkSPORT colleague Martin Keown also casting doubt over the upcoming campaign.

It’s important to recognise that West Ham are only two games into the Premier League season and it was only a matter of months ago they were competing in a European semi-final.

Moyes’ side haven’t suddenly become a bad team and if anything the summer additions have improved his squad.

They will take time to bed into life at the London Stadium, but once they do, the Irons are well-placed to make another assault on the top six.

West Ham

Arsenal and Tottenham have both got considerably stronger over the summer which will more than likely take the top four out of reach for most teams.

However, Manchester United are in no suitable condition to challenge for the top ten let alone the top six and the likes of Newcastle are still unproven when it comes to qualifying for Europe.

On paper, the Hammers have a great manager and a squad that is capable of securing Europa League football.

More positivity is required when it comes to the discourse surrounding West Ham United’s chances this season.
