Scott McTominay sent transfer message as West Ham United verdict emerges

Danny Murphy has insisted that Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is better than West Ham, as they look to bring him to the London Stadium this summer.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 7 August, the pundit believes that McTominay should be playing at a higher level than West Ham, who he predicts will be in a relegation battle this season.

Murphy claimed his opinion is a compliment to the Scotland international rather than an insult to West Ham, but insisted he should be pushing for more in his career.

While discussing the potential signing on talkSPORT, Murphy stated: “I can’t see McTominay [to West Ham] happening. I think he’s better than West Ham.

“It’s not a disrespect to West Ham, it’s a compliment to him. Yeah [they’re in the Europa League], but they were nearly relegated. They were in the bottom three for god knows how long. He doesn’t want to go to a relegation battle when he’s been playing for Manchester United and the best player for your country.”

When pressed by Adrian Durham about what McTominay’s level is, Murphy claimed: “I think he’s a top six, top seven player. I like him.”

West Ham

While Murphy is right about McTominay’s quality (he is a severely underappreciated footballer), his claims that he should be playing at a higher level than West Ham are misplaced. Just looking at the interested teams this summer, it seems the Irons and Everton are the stand-out teams.

There were links to Newcastle who have qualified for this season’s Champions League, but outside of that move which no longer seems to be on the table, a move to East London presents itself as the best option for McTominay.

David Moyes is a big fan of his, with his Premier League experience, physical presence and stature in the game standing out, and he has all the attributes available to make an impact at the London Stadium.

Reports on 7 August claimed [ESPN] that the Hammers had made a £60million double bid for McTominay and his Manchester United teammate Harry Maguire, as they look to bolster their squad this summer.

In other West Ham news, a Sky Sports journalist has shared a fresh update on Edson Alvarez’s move.
