Rio Ferdinand says Newcastle should move for West Ham midfielder Declan Rice
Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Newcastle United should aim to sign exciting British players like West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.
Following the takeover by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia-led consortium, whose net worth is estimated at £320billion, the Magpies are expected to dominate the transfer market in January and beyond.
Although the first task will be to bring in a top-class manager, the Magpies now have the wealth to sign any players in the world.
While the new owners are looking to take it step by step, they are almost certain to be linked with a raft of top players in January.
Ferdinand has suggested that the Magpies should look to sign talented English players like Raheem Sterling and Declan Rice.
Speaking on his YouTube channel Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said: “I’d be looking at people like Raheem Sterling.
“Raheem Sterling’s not playing regularly, I’d go ask him the question. I’d go and ask Declan Rice, ‘What’s going on?’
“Them two would be the first two on my list, and I’d go all out to go and get them.”
Newcastle do have the money to pay West Ham’s asking price for Rice, but will the England international join them?
The Magpies have a rich history and they are heading in a fresh direction under new ownership. However, it will take a lot of time for them to be in a situation where they can compete for trophies.
Rice has recently suggested that he is focused on West Ham and he has not let the transfer talks hamper his performances.
He wants to play for a big club where he can win trophies. Rice doesn’t seem to be the kind of player who is after money, and chances are high he would reject a move to Newcastle even if they approach him with a huge offer.
