Report: West Ham could attempt to sign Tottenham outcast Danny Rose

West Ham could make a swoop to sign left-back Danny Rose if he’s able to terminate his contract at Tottenham, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news website reports that David Moyes tried to sign Rose, 30, in the summer but didn’t want to do business with Daniel Levy due to the strained relationship between the Irons and the Spurs chairman.

In 2015, Levy blocked Emmanuel Adebayor’s loan move from North London to West Ham [Guardian] and since then, the Hammers have avoided doing business with the Tottenham chief.

However, their bid to sign Rose might not be over.

The former Leeds left-back has not been named in Jose Mourinho’s squad for the Premier League and Claret & Hugh reports there’s a chance that the defender could agree to tear up his contract in North London and make himself available as a free agent.

If that happens, West Ham won’t have to deal with Levy and will find themselves a new left-back to provide competition with Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell.

In the last few league matches, Masuaku has played as a left wing-back with Cresswell being utilised as a left-sided centre-back in a back-three.

Rose would more than likely be seen as someone to compete with Masuaku for the wing-back role due to the attacking nature of his play on the left-flank.

Although Rose was once seen as one of the best left-backs in England and appeared regularly for the Three Lions, it would be fair to say that he’s no longer as good as he once was.

Last season, the 29-times England international played 16 times in all competitions for Spurs before joining Newcastle on loan in January, where he played a further 13 times.

Rose would be a solid option for Moyes to have at left-back due to his experience of playing in the Premier League but based on West Ham’s current form, the Spurs man will likely be a back-up option for Masuaku rather than someone to come in and replace the DR Congo international.

In other West Ham news, Moyes is predicted to name an unchanged line-up against Manchester City this weekend.
