Reiss Nelson could join West Ham United squad in pre-season tour of USA as transfer agreed

West Ham United are hoping to secure the signing of Reiss Nelson in time for the winger to join the club’s American pre-season tour, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet reported on 17 July that with the Irons leaping ahead of London rivals Crystal Palace in an effort to sign Nelson, the deal could be completed in time for the 24-year-old to head to the US with the squad.

It is understood that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has informed Nelson he is free to find another club, having struggled to offer the player minutes in recent years.

West Ham hoping to complete Nelson deal quickly

With how busy the remainder of the summer transfer-wise is set to be at West Ham United, it’s little shock the club want to accelerate the Nelson deal and agree a fee with Arsenal.

It would also allow the skilful forward to be judged in America by Julen Lopetegui and bond with his new teammates.

However, according to the Evening Standard [15 July], the Hammers have yet to launch a formal bid for Nelson.

The player himself is under contract at the Emirates until 2027, and has returned to London Colney following his summer break – but despite his frustration at a lack of game time, a move would be a big deal.

Reiss Nelson is likely to leave Arsenal this summer for regular football

Nelson has grown through the ranks at Arsenal’s renowned Hale End academy and, alongside Eddie Nketiah, is now one of just two players in the current squad to have made a first-team appearance under Arsene Wenger before his departure in 2018.

The convenience of remaining in London whilst gaining more regular football in the Premier League would certainly appeal about West Ham, though this may also be the case for an improving Crystal Palace team under Oliver Glasner – so Tim Steidten will want to tie up a deal sooner rather than later.

In other West Ham news, the club are ready to pay serious money for Alexander Sorloth.
