Pundit: West Ham United don’t need to sign Leeds United star Jack Harrison

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium

Frank McAvennie is unsure that Jack Harrison would even get a game for West Ham after being linked with a £25m+ move from Leeds.

Harrison was part of the Leeds side that got relegated to the Championship and is expected to leave Elland Road despite signing a new contract recently, with a relegation release clause inserted in his deal.

West Ham are said to be big admirers of the winger, but McAvennie is unsure that he would really improve the team considering the likes of Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini have struggled for game time this season.

“I think we’ve got Benrahma, Fornals, Lanzini and he’s very similar to the rest of them,” he told West Ham Zone.

“I don’t know if we need another winger when we’ve got players like Lanzini, who’s a really good player on his day.

“He might not do it enough, but he’s really good. They’re not in the team, so I don’t know if we need another one as well. I don’t know if he’d even get a game.

“I’d rather spend the £10-20m on someone else. There’s good players out there if you can get them.”

Lanzini looks set to leave the club with his contract expiring at the end of the month, with Aston Villa, Besiktas and River Plate all showing interest in the 30-year-old Argentine.

West Ham are also interested in Harvey Barnes for that winger position, although Harrison is likely to cost around half the amount.
