Pundit warns West Ham United against £25m transfer move for Bristol City starlet Alex Scott

West Ham should avoid signing Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott this summer as they need to focus on ready-made players, according to Frank McAvennie.

The Hammers have been linked with a £25m move for the England Under-20 international, who has shone in the Championship and been compared to Jack Grealish.

But after battling relegation for much of this season, the ex-Irons striker believes the club should be focusing on signing players ready to step into the side immediately – especially with Declan Rice expected to leave.

“It would be a good move if we were in the perfect situation but right now West Ham need ready-made players,” he told West Ham Zone.

“We don’t need future players. We need someone to come in with Declan going to come in and fill his shoes. We need someone to take over from Soucek because he’s not playing well.

“David keeps putting him in but it’s not doing the boy’s confidence any good. So I think we need to bring in players, but that’s a big step up as well. That’s a big ask.

“He’d be decent money too. I wouldn’t want West Ham to spend money on someone for the future, they need someone for now.

“He’ll want to go into a team, he’ll be full of confidence. He might have a better chance at West Ham but that’s a gamble and I don’t know if I’d take the gamble.”

Scott has also attracted interest from Leeds and Liverpool ahead of the summer, after managing two goals and four assists in 46 appearances this season.
