Porto bank mega money before advanced Luis Guilherme push at West Ham

Porto were advanced in their efforts to sign West Ham United attacker Luis Guilherme on Monday, according to O Jogo.

The newspaper reports in its print edition (4 February) that the Portuguese outfit made a late push for the Irons’ forward as they looked to spend some of the £91.5million they made from sales in the winter window.

Porto sold Nico Gonzalez and Galeno for hefty sums as they signed for Manchester City and Al Ahli before the Portuguese deadline on 4 February.

West Ham United fail to sort Luis Guilherme transfer

Guilherme looked to be on his way out of the East London club after failing to make an impact since his move last summer.

The Brazilian has made just seven appearances in all competitions for the Hammers this season, demonstrating that he is surplus to requirements.

It would have come as a surprise for many fans as the 18-year-old came on as a substitute in the final minutes as Chelsea beat the Irons 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on deadline day.

Graham Potter seems to have the youngster in his plans for the second half of the season, although it remains to be seen whether a foreign club might take him away as the transfer window remains open in some places.

Tim Steidten made several questionable decisions at West Ham, one of them being the signing of Guilherme.

With Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen already at the Hammers, it was apparent that the 18-year-old would struggle for minutes at the London Stadium.

While the Brazilian possesses considerable potential, he will not be able to fulfil it by rotting on the Irons’ bench.

Porto may have been the perfect next destination for the youngster to develop, but as it stands, no movement looks to be expected in Portugal.
