Paqueta saga: Fury emerges after latest development for West Ham star

West Ham have stood by Lucas Paqueta throughout his legal battle.

The Brazil international has been awaiting trial for alleged spot-fixing charges for many months after an FA hearing.

This has had a sizable impact on his form for the Hammers, with the 27-year-old being a shadow of his former self throughout the campaign.

As frustrating as this has been for Graham Potter and Co., they have continued to back Paqueta, but will be growing impatient as the case continues to drag on.

Paqueta rage emerges once again at West Ham

The attacking midfielder has continuously denied any wrongdoing throughout this process, as results continue to be awaited.

This has clearly taken a toll on his personal life and mental health, never mind his performances at the London Stadium.

These sorts of problems were clear to see when Paqueta broke down after picking up a yellow card against Tottenham in the latter stages of the season.

The number 10 also appeared to be visibly upset after the final game of the campaign at Ipswich Town, where he appeared to wave goodbye to the away fans.

These sorts of issues haven’t gone unnoticed and have caused plenty of frustration in East London, but that is now turning into anger as time passes.

This has sparked Ian Ladyman into fury in his Daily Mail column on 6 June (page 73), as he spoke out on the wait that the Brazilian has faced.

He said: “It was in August 2023 that news of Lucas Paqueta’s implication in a spot-fixing probe, and still he awaits to discover his fate. We learn now that the FA hearing into the West Ham player’s alleged indiscretion is complete, but it could be two months before Paqueta is told of the outcome.

“So August 2023 will morph into August 2025. Whichever way you look at it, this is just far too long. For the player, his club and indeed the Premier League.”

Paqueta awaits hearing result at West Ham

There is no doubting that this process has gone on for far two long as it has left the player and the Irons in limbo for nearly two years.

This has seen a move for Paqueta to Manchester City be scuppered, costing the Brazilian a chance at winning titles and a sizable fee for the E20 club.

With that being said, a departure could still be on the cards in the coming window, although his hearing results could have an impact on how possible that is.
