Nuno Espirito Santo makes West Ham transfer plea after achieving feat not seen since David Moyes

Nuno Espirito Santo has sparked a mini-revival at West Ham United over the last few weeks.

West Ham beat Sunderland 3-1 on Saturday to record their third win in as many games, and their second straight victory in the Premier League.

The Hammers were eight points adrift of safety after their 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on 6 January, but less than three weeks later, they are firmly back in the hunt for survival.

However, in order to have any chance of avoiding relegation to the Championship, Nuno must ensure that this good form continues in the coming months.

West Ham achieve three-year first against Sunderland

The London Stadium has developed into a very toxic place in recent times, but all that bad blood evaporated during a remarkable first half against Sunderland.

Crysencio Summerville continued his good form by giving West Ham the lead after just 14 minutes, rising highest to power a header into the back of the net.

Jarrod Bowen then converted a penalty after Ollie Scarles was brought down in the box, with Mateus Fernandes firing a beauty into the top corner from 30 yards out, moments before the break.

As shared by The Guardian, it is the first time the Hammers have held a 3-0 lead at half-time since their win over Bournemouth in April 2023, almost three years ago.

David Moyes was in charge of the East London side that day, with Michail Antonio, Lucas Paqueta, Declan Rice, and Pablo Fornals scoring the goals in a 4-0 victory against the Cherries.

Nuno Espirito Santo demands more signings

Despite leading the Hammers to their third successive win in all competitions, Nuno is still adamant that he needs more additions before the end of the winter transfer window.

The Portuguese boss confirmed in his post-match press conference that he wants to “rebalance” his squad, with more transfers likely.

West Ham are expected to complete the signing of Adama Traore from Fulham in the coming days, which would add pace and power to their attacking ranks.

Nuno is also set to sanction the exit of Guido Rodríguez after a deal was agreed that will see the out-of-favour midfielder join Spanish side Valencia.

With the winter transfer window shutting on 2 February, it is a crucial week for the Hammers if they want to improve their chances of retaining their Premier League status.
