Niclas Fullkrug transfer response emerges as West Ham opportunity to be seized

AC Milan are ready to sign Niclas Fullkrug from West Ham United in the winter transfer window.

Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that while a deal for the striker looks complicated, the Rossoneri may be “ready to seize the opportunity”.

Fullkrug is pushing for a move away from the London Stadium after what’s been a frustrating almost 18-month spell in the capital for him.

Nuno Espirito Santo has had to rely on Callum Wilson in recent weeks amid the Germany international’s fitness issues, but it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese manager will be open to his sale.

West Ham salary hinders Niclas Fullkrug exit talks

While Fullkrug is being offered to clubs in Italy, his camp haven’t received great responses so far, Di Marzio says.

The 32-year-old’s significant wages at the London Stadium may complicate his exit in January.

Milan’s move may be contingent on where they find themselves in the Serie A table midway through the season, with Massimiliano Allegri’s team currently just two points off the top.

Speaking on Sky Sports via Milan News on 20 November, Di Marzio said: “Everyone’s talking about West Ham’s Fullkrug, yes, his agent is trying to bring him to Italy, he’s putting him forward. So far, he hasn’t had any great responses from Italian clubs. He has a very high salary at West Ham.”

The journalist added: “These are complex dynamics, but I’m convinced that Milan is ready to seize the opportunity. A lot will also depend on their league position, to understand whether to make an effort and what kind of effort.”

Werder Bremen are another team eyeing Fullkrug, and his situation will certainly be one to watch in January.

Nuno Espirito Santo hand to be forced after Niclas Fulkrug transfer latest

Nuno could potentially block Fullkrug’s departure from the London Stadium as he fights to keep the Hammers in the Premier League.

The Portuguese manager should demand a quality replacement for the Germany international at West Ham before allowing him to leave.

It would make zero sense for the former Nottingham Forest manager to let go of one of his number nines, with Wilson and Callum Marshall currently the backup options.

If the Irons have any intention of helping Nuno avoid relegation, then they must resist the urge to sell Fullkrug before signing reinforcements.
