Niclas Fullkrug stance on West Ham United exit shared amid January transfer speculation
Niclas Fullkrug is not considering exiting West Ham United in the January transfer window, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on Friday (25 October) that the Hammers are not interested in selling the 31-year-old forward in the new year, despite his slow start to life at the London Stadium.
Fullkrug is continuing to work hard as he closes in on a return from injury and the German international is expected to be back among Julen Lopetegui’s squad after the November international break.
Reports had suggested the Irons were already considering a mid-season move for a new forward due to concerns around the former Borussia Dortmund man’s fitness [talkSPORT, 22 October].
Will Niclas Fullkrug exit West Ham United and the London Stadium?
While Fullkrug’s start to life in the Premier League has been nowhere near as successful as most initially expected it to be, it would be stupid of the Hammers to cut ties with the German international when January rolls around.
Lopetegui and Tim Steidten were keen to solve the Irons’ striker problem this summer and in Fullkrug, they appeared to find a player ready to hit the ground running and make a real impact in the Premier League.
Unfortunately, injuries have really hit the forward hard and limited his involvement in the opening months of the season. Of course, that fitness record will be concerning for West Ham, but it isn’t the be-all and end-all.
Players go through spells where they are ruled out and stuck on the treatment table all the time. It doesn’t mean that the German international won’t come good in the future even if the initial signs are concerning.
Lopetegui and the coaching staff around the former Wolves manager at the London Stadium need to give Fullkrug a genuine chance to impress in claret and blue when fit. If he still flatters to deceive then, they can decide to cut their losses.
