Niclas Fullkrug exit plan emerges at West Ham United as agent reveals it all makes sense

Niclas Fullkrug is keen to leave West Ham in the January transfer window, just 18 months after he arrived at the London Stadium.

West Ham signed Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024, completing a deal worth around £27million for the big German.

The striker had enjoyed a superb season in the Bundesliga and looked to be a coup for the Hammers, although the signing has not worked out as plannned.

Fullkrug was injured while on international duty with Germany, in just the latest of a series of problems that have seen the 32-year-old miss months of action since arriving in the Premier League.

West Ham beat Newcastle United 3-1 on Sunday without the German, who could now face a battle to return to the team after Callum Wilson‘s strong performance.

Niclas Fullkrug’s agent explains exit decision

Fullkrug has handed in a transfer request at West Ham, with the Hammers reportedly open to offers in January.

The German’s exit may well pave the way for a new arrival in the winter transfer window, with Ivan Toney among the names being discussed at the London Stadium.

The former Brentford striker only left the Premier League last year, but could be keen to return in an attempt to make a late push for England’s 2026 World Cup squad.

Fullkrug‘s agent has now confirmed that it could be time for the 32-year-old to move on from West Ham, with an exit plan seemingly in place.

The Sun, page 45, reported on Tuesday that Thorsten Wirth said: “It might make sense to make a change.

“In retrospect, you have to say the transfer didn’t work. He’s had a bit of negative momentum and also some bad luck.”

Fullkrug had claimed ‘good feeling’ ahead of the season

Speaking in July, Fullkrug was in high spirits about the upcoming season.

“I’m very happy. I am feeling very good after the difficult season last year,” he said. “It’s the best I’ve felt. It was a tough season for me, but now a new season starts, and I have a very good feeling about it.”

The season has not quite panned out as the striker would have hoped, however, with West Ham starting in terrible form and injuries returning for the 32-year-old.

A departure may well be the best-case scenario for all parties, with the Premier League clearly not the league to get the best out of the forward.
