N’Golo Kante stance emerges as West Ham United push for new midfield transfer

N’Golo Kante will not push for a move to West Ham despite interest to take him away from Al-Ittihad, according to L’Equipe.

Writing on their website (19 July), the French news outlet report that the Hammers have opened talks to sign the former Leicester and Chelsea midfielder this summer.

But while the player is open to the move back to the Premier League, he won’t push to leave Saudi Arabia as he recognises his season there got him back in the national team fold for Euro 2024 and he wants to continue to represent France.

West Ham United face battle to sign N’Golo Kante

Every single area of the pitch at the London Stadium is in need of strengthening currently, and Julen Lopetegui knows that he has got a lot of work to do with the squad.

Defence has been bolstered with Max Kilman’s arrival, and attack strengthened by Luis Guilherme, but midfield is weaker than it was last season because Kalvin Phillips’ loan has ended and Flynn Downes has been sold to Southampton.

It’s rare that a 33-year-old is genuinely a great option to come in and strengthen a squad, but Kante’s performances at Euro 2024 proved he is still a top-quality player and so long as he isn’t expected to play 50 games this season he could be excellent.

Could Alphonse Areola be used in a deal to bring France star N’Golo Kante to West Ham United?

It won’t be easy to convince the Saudi club to let him go though. He’s a marquee name and an attraction for fans, and as already mentioned, his quality is not faltering yet.

This is certainly a deal to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks, but West Ham are very much in the race to seal a World Cup winning signature.

In other West Ham news, a player is close to sealing a £37m move to the London Stadium.
