Newcastle United look to blow West Ham United out of water with Max Kilman bid
Newcastle United have made a player-plus-cash bid to beat West Ham to the signing of Wolves captain Max Kilman, according to The Telegraph.
Writing on their website (22 June), the news outlet report that the Magpies offered midfielder Elliot Anderson plus cash but it was immediately rejected.
West Ham had a bid worth £25million plus add-ons rejected on Friday as Julen Lopetegui looks to be reunited with his former Molineux captain.
West Ham United face uphill task to sign Max Kilman
It was always likely to be a really difficult deal for the Hammers to pull off this summer, but now it’s just got even harder.
Wolves don’t want to lose their talismanic captain, not least to a league rival, but the Hammers are keen to test their resolve and reunite their manager with Kilman to strengthen the defence.
Kurt Zouma is free to leave and Nayef Aguerd’s future is in the air [Hakim Zhouri, 11 May], meaning the centre of defence is an area of priority for Lopetegui to bolster.

Kilman is valued at around £45m by Wolves but that seems high, and with their issues with PSR glaringly obvious they may be forced to drop that price before June 30th.
But the Irons board will now have to move very quickly to beat any competition to his signature, with Newcastle showing their hand and both Manchester United and Tottenham lurking in the shadows too [GiveMeSport, 20 June].
In other West Ham news, the Hammers want to sign a £25m striker with 52 goals in the last two seasons.
