Nayef Aguerd wage demands create red tape in West Ham United transfer news
The wage demands of West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd are the main thing holding negotiations back a possible transfer to Nice, according to Nice-Matin.
The newspaper reported via their print edition on 10 July [Sports pages] that out of Kurt Zouma and Aguerd, the latter would be the only one of interest to the club.
West Ham tried to include Aguerd in a potential move for Jean Clear-Todibo, but that move has failed to progress so far at the London Stadium.
Why West Ham United need to offload Nayef Aguerd this summer
From looking at West Ham’s defensive record in the Premier League last season, it’s evident that a massive defensive overhaul was needed before the start of the 2024/25 season.
Max Kilman has already been brought in from Wolves and although he won’t likely start many games, Wes Foderingham has also been added to Julen Lopetegui’s squad.
The addition of Kilman to the Hammers’ ranks will no doubt improve their defence tenfold but just one signing won’t be enough for changes to occur.
As another centre-back such as Clair-Todibo is a priority for the London-based club this summer, some departures will likely be needed.

Zouma and regular starter Aguerd are the players who have been most linked with moves away following their abysmal showing last term.
Although West Ham wants rid of both players, Aguerd is the one who seemingly has the most suitors. Even if the Hammers have to subsidise some of his wages to warrant a move, it could be worth the monetary gain in the long run.
In other West Ham news, the future of Jarrod Bowen has seemingly been decided.
