Nayef Aguerd recall update shared after West Ham United regret
West Ham United do not have the option to recall Nayef Aguerd from his Real Sociedad loan, according to Sean Whetstone.
The Hammers insider reported via the West Ham Football account on X [12 January] that West Ham regret the lack of option inserted into his Sociedad loan deal last summer.
It comes after Estadio Deportivo reported on Saturday (11 January) that Aguerd’s time in Spain was in “jeopardy” following Graham Potter’s appointment at the London Stadium.
“Sadly West Ham do not hold any option to recall Nayef Aguerd this January,” Whetstone tweeted.
“He will remain on a season long loan to Real Sociedad. The previous head coach didn’t rate the central defender and the Hammers are now regretting the lack of option of recall on the defender.”
Nayef Aguerd not returning to West Ham United in January transfer window
There had been some hope that Aguerd would return to East London before 3 February, but that will no longer be the case.
It is a shocking oversight on the club’s behalf. Nobody expected Julen Lopetegui to be ousted six months into the job, but that is very much what has happened.
Potter may well have wanted Aguerd back for the start of his tenure, but that cannot happen and he will have to make do with what he has.
On a side note, it was reported by El Gol Digital in November that West Ham want £25million from Sociedad to sign Aguerd permanently.

That is a fee that is out of the LaLiga side’s range, so it seems almost certain the Mexican will be back at West Ham at the end of the campaign.
Only then will Potter be able to integrate Aguerd into his plans going forward.
