Nayef Aguerd return: Graham Potter to make early West Ham decision
Nayef Aguerd could return to West Ham United after Graham Potter was appointed manager, according to Estadio Deportivo.
The news outlet reports (11 January) that the defender’s continuity at Real Sociedad could be in “jeopardy” after Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui at the Hammers.
While the Moroccan centre-back would be delighted to remain in Spain, his future will depend on the new English manager.
Nayef Aguerd to return to West Ham United?
It was evidently an error on the Irons’ part to allow Aguerd to leave in the previous transfer window on loan to the La Liga outfit.
Despite Lopetegui seemingly not counting on the 28-year-old, he had been the East London club’s most consistent defender over the years.
Tim Steidten made some impressive additions to the backline with Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo, but they haven’t lived up to expectations.
West Ham also have Konstantinos Mavropanois at their disposal, but the former Arsenal ace has also been in and out of the starting side this season.

Aguerd formed a solid centre-back pairing at the Hammers under David Moyes, and it was surprising for some of the London Stadium faithful to see him go.
The Irons struggled massively under Lopetegui, who left them in 14th place in the Premier League table, with a goal difference of minus 15.
Potter’s first game in charge against Aston Villa on Friday (10 January) in the FA Cup showed glimpses of hope but still ended in a 2-1 defeat.
It will be interesting to see whether the former Brighton boss will want Aguerd to be part of his plans for the upcoming campaign.
In other West Ham news, a new transfer twist has emerged regarding the transfer of Niclas Fullkrug.
