Nathan Ake decides on West Ham loan transfer ahead of January

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake isn’t keen to join West Ham United in the winter transfer window.

The 30-year-old has spent more than five years at the Sky Blues, but his influence under Pep Guardiola has diminished this season.

Ake has been identified as a target at the London Stadium to bolster the backline as the Hammers fight a damning relegation battle, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

Nuno Espirito Santo has an uphill battle in the Premier League, and the Portuguese manager has certainly been handed a significant blow regarding the Netherlands international.

West Ham United snubbed by Nathan Ake

Ake has no intention of joining the Hammers on loan in January, according to Jacob Steinberg.

The Guardian journalist revealed on X on 30 December that the centre-back doesn’t want to move to the London Stadium, which isn’t surprising.

It will now be interesting to see who the Irons will pursue as they clearly seem to be prioritising bolstering their defence in the coming weeks.

Max Kilman, Jean Clair-Todibo, Igor Julio and Konstantinos Mavropanos have all come under heavy criticism from fans due to their inconsistent performances.

It isn’t surprising to see the East London club struggling in 18th place as they have the second-worst defence in the Premier League.

Nuno is at risk of getting sacked at the London Stadium unless he turns things around in E20, with a return to the Championship looking likely with every passing matchday.

Nuno doesn’t seem to trust Callum Wilson, despite the Englishman doing well when he’s started.

The Portuguese manager has opted to play without a recognised striker at West Ham, which has been detrimental.

With Niclas Fullkrug seemingly on his way out, the Hammers’ first and foremost thought should be to get a quality number nine who can be relied on for goals.

While defensive issues have undoubtedly plagued the Irons, their inability to score goals is arguably much more concerning.
