Medical done as West Ham United transfer to be complete in 24 hours – Dharmesh Sheth

West Ham are expected to complete the signing of Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez in the next 24 hours, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist tweeted on 8 August that the Mexican international has completed his medical after a deal was agreed with the Dutch club on 7 August.

It has been reported that the fee to take the 25-year-old to the London Stadium and become the Hammers’ first summer signing is about £34million.

Relief

It will be a major relief to all those that are associated with West Ham to hear that the club are finally closing in on their first signing of the summer.

It has been an incredibly frustrating past few weeks for everyone after failing to bring in any new additions since selling Declan Rice to Arsenal despite making a number of offers for different players.

Out of all the players the Irons have been linked with this summer, the Mexican is probably the most ideal replacement for Rice due to him being more defensive-minded and happy to sit in front of the defence and do the simple parts of the game.

West Ham

He has been an instrumental figure for Ajax since signing from Mexican club America in 2019 after making 147 appearances, where he has scored 13 goals and laid on six assists [Transfermarkt].

The deal isn’t done until the club officially confirm it, but it feels like just being a matter of time until we finally secure out first summer signing.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have seen an offer turned down for a Premier League midfielder.
