M’Bala Nzola agent confirms January interest from West Ham

Didier Pingisi, the agent of Spezia forward M’Bala Nzola, has confirmed that West Ham were keen on signing his client in January.

Having parted ways with Sebastien Haller, the Hammers were on the lookout for a striker. However, they did not succeed in their quest to get one over the line before the start of February.

Nzola was one of the players they made an attempt to sign, and now according to the player’s agent, his client did not fancy a move to the Premier League at the time.

In an interview with Grand Hotel Calciomercato, Pingisi said, “We received offers from three Premier League and three Serie A clubs and a club from the Bundesliga sounded out M’Bala.

“We were in advanced talks, we even discussed his possible salary, but then we asked ourselves if that made sense.

“Nzola needed stability and it was in a very good moment, so we thought it was better to stay at Spezia.”

Interest could reignite

It’s no secret that West Ham are looking for a striker this summer so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they’re interested in signing the player.

M’Bala felt that moving mid-season wasn’t something he was comfortable with, but now having played the remainder of the campaign, he could be tempted into thinking otherwise.

West Ham are a club on the rise after an impressive season under David Moyes. They’re fighting for Europa League spots and could finish as high as fifth.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a decent campaign for Serie A debutants Spezia – scoring 11 goals in 24 league appearances.

He’s also regarded as someone with high potential, with coach Vincenzo Montella calling him a younger version of former Chelsea striker and two-time Premier League winner Didier Drogba. [Tuttosport]
