Maxwel Cornet undergoes West Ham United medical as race against Premier League clock begins

Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet has had a medical with West Ham ahead of signing a five-year contract at the London Stadium, according to The Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Friday (5 August, page 79) that Cornet, 25, has his medical checks with the Irons in London on Thursday night (4 August) but faces a race against the clock to be available versus Manchester City this weekend.

It is understood that the Hammers need to get Cornet registered with the Premier League before 12pm on Friday so that he can be in the squad for the clash with the champions at the London Stadium on Sunday (7 August).

All hands on deck

It’s going to take a big effort from West Ham to get Cornet registered in time to be available against Manchester City on Sunday.

While a lot of fans have been frustrated by the snail’s pace the Irons have moved at this summer on certain deals, you cannot argue with this one.

It would have been nice to have wrapped up an agreement sooner, yes.

However, the fact that we could have yet another new arrival through the door and in the squad against Manchester City suggests that there’s a big effort going on behind the scenes at the London Stadium to ensure David Moyes’ squad is as strong as possible.

This is likely to be the toughest home game of the season but no half-measures are being made ahead of the game and we really do hope the club gets Cornet registered in time for him to be in the squad against Pep Guardiola’s champions.

Cornet will add a lot of quality and depth to Moyes’ squad as he can play anywhere down the left flank and also star as a striker.

We’re more than happy with this.

Well done, West Ham.
