Maxwel Cornet footage emerges from Italy ahead of West Ham transfer

West Ham attacker Maxwel Cornet has been spotted in a Genoa training kit after medical tests began ahead of his move, Gianluca Di Marzio has shared.

Footage shared by Italian journalist Di Marzio (20 January) showed the Hammers winger leaving a vehicle and posing for pictures in the kit of his proposed new club.

The former Burnley man has agreed to leave the London Stadium with a loan move to join the Italian club now lined up (Ben Jacobs).

That move appears to be nearing completion after the latest footage emerged from Italy after earlier footage showing him at an airport (TuttoMercatoWeb).

West Ham Cornet loan makes sense

The decision to allow the Ivorian winger to leave temporarily makes sense for the Hammers as he is unlikely to make an impact on the first-team squad.

The 28-year-old has featured just twice in the Premier League this season in his previous loan spell at Southampton.

He has not featured since October and needs regular minutes to get back to speed if he is to have an impact at the London Stadium in the future.

The alternative is that the Irons allow him to leave permanently and a decent spell in Italy could increase the value of the Hammers’ asset.

It is unlikely that they will recoup anywhere near the £17.5million that they signed him for from Burnley in 2022 unless he has a crazy second half of the campaign.

However, they could recoup a decent amount which would allow them to rebuild the squad for Graham Potter shortly.
