Manchester City to seal Divin Mubama transfer after West Ham decision

Manchester City are closing in on a move to sign Divin Mubama after leaving West Ham, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian transfer specialist reported via his personal X account [15 August] that the current Premier League champions have hijacked the deal from Lyon and Famalicao.

It is understood that the club see Mubama as a homegrown player who could develop after rejecting a contract extension at the London Stadium and leaving for nothing [Roshane Thomas], with the 19-year-old potentially being loaned out.

Fans at the London Stadium will hardly be surprised to see Mubama being linked with such a huge move to Man City this summer, despite rarely being given an opportunity by the Hammers last season.

The forward was always on the fringes of the first-team squad, having a regular spot on David Moyes’ bench, but fans became frustrated for the player after a lack of minutes on the pitch.

While Mubama was able to make 18 appearances for the Irons, none of these came as Premier League starts after breaking through from the club’s academy.

There is no doubt that the 19-year-old possesses a lot of talent, hence why Pep Guardiola’s City side are interested in capturing the youngster.

Most fans will be happy to see the prospect find a new club after running down his contract at the London Stadium, but there will forever be a ‘what if’ hanging over as he nears a move to Manchester.

The number of young talents breaking through into the West Ham squad is often limited, with George Earthy just the latest prospect to be loaned out after making his debut last season.

For Mubama, however, a new challenge is on his horizon after leaving the London Stadium this summer.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are set to formally announce the signing of Bradley Dologhan.
