Man United withdraw interest in West Ham United gem Edson Alvarez after injury setback
Manchester United have ended their interest in signing Edson Alvarez from West Ham after he picked up an injury at the Copa America, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The outlet has reported (30 June, page 79) that the Red Devils had been considering a bid for the Mexico midfielder this summer.
This was until the 26-year-old picked up an injury which was enough to end his tournament after just 30 minutes against Jamaica.
Now Man United have turned their attention to signing Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain instead of the Hammers star.
Man United end interest in West Ham star Edson Alvarez
The 26-year-old had a solid campaign in his debut Premier League season and has seemingly garnered summer interest and has played under Man United boss Erik ten Hag at Ajax.
His disciplinary record did become a problem at times for David Moyes, which was a source of frustration at times for the former Hammers boss.
Next season under Julen Lopetegui, he may find himself as an important member of the midfield or defensive setup at the London Stadium.
The Hammers won’t want to sell him after spending a sizable fee on him from Ajax last season and Man United would be spending a large fee to convince the club to sell.

Until the new head coach can get a handle on his squad and assess the players he has available to him, sales should be put on hold.
It is certainly frustrating for him to have picked up an injury at the Copa America after starting their opening game of the tournament.
Hammers fans will be hopeful that he can return quickly and play a part on their squad next campaign.
