West Ham set to confirm first transfer of Lopetegui era
Julen Lopetegui’s early transfer strategy at the London Stadium has been widespread, both in terms of the various positions he’d like to strengthen and the areas in which the Hammers are looking to find it [The Sun].
Seeking out the brightest Brazilian talent has been a key goal for the club so far, sending both technical director Tim Stiedten and agent Kia Joorabchian out to South America for discussions with targets [Evening Standard].
Guilherme is the first of those that the Irons have gone through with after a move for international centre-back Fabricio Bruno fell through, and the fee paid for the 18-year-old – rising as high as £25.5million with add-ons taken into account – shows just how highly Lopetegui rates the Palmeiras starlet.
While he’s not expected to slot straight into the West Ham first-team next season – particularly if the club keep hold of exceptional wingers Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen [Sky Sports] – Guilherme will still have a part to play, as he looks to announce his arrival on the Premier League stage.
