Luis Guilherme in talks over permanent West Ham exit to 25-time domestic champions

Luis Guilherme could now be on his way out of West Ham United on a permanent basis in the January transfer window.

Guilherme cannot get a look-in at West Ham, with the most recent of his five Premier League appearances this season coming in November.

The 19-year-old joined West Ham from Palmeiras in last summer’s transfer window, but his career at the London Stadium has simply not got going.

Sky Sports recently reported that Guilherme is ready to fight for his West Ham place, though the latest reports from abroad suggest that is no longer the case.

Sporting CP in talks over permanent Luis Guilherme transfer

A number of bids were made for Guilherme in the summer, but he remained a West Ham player come the end of the window.

Now, according to Maisfutebol on Saturday, Sporting have begun working on a permanent deal for Guilherme “in recent hours”.

The report adds that the 25-time Portuguese champions were unsuccessful with an initial loan approach for the winger.

West Ham made it clear they are in need of money and therefore only a permanent exit would suffice.

It is said that negotiations are now “increasingly advanced” between the two clubs, with the window due to open on Thursday.

West Ham set to take another big financial hit on Guilherme

With Niclas Fullkrug heading to AC Milan on an initial loan basis ahead of a £4.4million permanent move, this is another major financial hit for West Ham.

The Hammers are losing £22.6m on Fullkrug, and it surely will not be too much difference on Guilherme all things considered.

The Brazilian cost West Ham £25.5m and, while it is now known how much Sporting will likely pay for him, it will not be anywhere close to that amount.

It goes to highlight just how atrocious the transfer strategy was under Tim Steidten, and why the Hammers are better off without him.

The only hope is that lessons have been learned going forward. Put simply, West Ham cannot afford to make a mess of the January window or else they are going down to the Championship.
