Keiber Lamadrid starts late-night medical to sign for West Ham as new plan revealed

West Ham are closing in on their third signing of the winter transfer window.

After a wretched first half of the season, West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo was facing the sack as his side sits in the Premier League relegation zone.

Former West Ham boss Harry Redknapp predicted a Championship demotion, but a recent upturn in form has brightened the mood around London Stadium.

Callum Wilson scored an injury-time winner against Tottenham last time out, and they progressed to round four of the FA Cup, but West Ham are still five points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.

In a bid to beat the drop, West Ham signed Gil Vicente striker Pablo Felipe, along with adding Lazio forward Taty Castellanos earlier this month.

Now, it seems, they are closing in on another January recruit.

West Ham eye multiple January recruits

According to Standard Sport, Venezuelan winger Keiber Lamadrid is finalising a move to West Ham.

The report adds that the Deportivo La Guaira star began his medical on Tuesday night ahead of joining West Ham on loan for the rest of the season.

The Hammers will have an option to make the move permanent for the 22-year-old this summer.

However, the youngster will initially join up with West Ham’s development squad, rather than the first team. A deal is expected to be completed later this week.

In addition to Lamadrid, West Ham are said to be in the market for a goalkeeper to provide competition for Alphonse Areola.

This comes at a time when West Ham may be prepared to sell summer signing Mads Hermansen, who is attracting interest from abroad.

Indeed, earlier this month, West Ham reportedly entered into talks with Al-Nassr over their keeper Bento.

West Ham make first step towards avoiding relegation

In this season of woe for West Ham, many things have gone wrong for Nuno’s side.

One huge cause for concern is their defence, with West Ham conceding 44 goals in 22 Premier League games – the worst in the division. And at the other end of the pitch, they are struggling for goals, too.

However, West Ham’s decision to retain Wilson, after it looked like his deal would be terminated earlier this month, is the right call.

Indeed, the former Newcastle United man, who joined the Hammers last summer, is one of their top scorers this season.

West Ham’s top scorersGoals to games
Jarrod BowenSix goals in 22 games
Callum WilsonFive goals in 18 games
Lucas PaquetaFour goals in 18 games
Mateus FernandesTwo goals in 20 games
Tomas SoucekTwo goals in 19 games

West Ham would also be wise to keep playmaker and Flamengo target Lucas Paqueta for the rest of the season, too.

Whether they can hold onto the Brazilian and strengthen their squad this month remains to be seen. But they need to keep their best assets if they are to get out of this mess.
