Kalvin Phillips turned down Crystal Palace loan move in favour of West Ham United after what David Moyes said

Kalvin Phillips turned down a January loan move to Crystal Palace in favour of moving to West Ham after David Moyes told him he had wanted him for two years, according to The Standard.

The newspaper reported via their website on 29 January that despite an offer from Palace and interest from Juventus, the England international was convinced by Moyes to move to the London Stadium.

This has come after Roy Hodgson revealed in his pre-match press conference that it became impossible for Palace to lure Phillips to Selhurst Park when West Ham showed their hand.

A display of the club’s pulling power

There was a time not too long ago when the Hammers may have had close competition on their hands from Palace in terms of rival transfer bids, but a 60,000-seater stadium and Europa League football have certainly helped their cause and their pulling power is now clear.

It is a display of how far West Ham have come in just a few years that they are able to pip the likes of Juventus to deals in January, while the deal will be made even sweeter knowing that Phillips rejected their London rivals.

Despite some frustrations at the club surrounding Moyes’ position, there is no doubt players want to play for him. The likes of Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus, and now Phillips, all full internationals, decided to move to East London to play under the boss.

West Ham

Some of the arrivals at the London Stadium in the past couple of transfer windows have shown how high the ambition is at the club, looking to bring in high-level internationals and big names to strengthen their squad and compete for silverware.

In other West Ham news, Alex Crook named three players the Hammers could sign.
