Julen Lopetegui makes Michail Antonio decision as West Ham United transfer close
West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten believe Niclas Fullkrug is a higher calibre striker than Michail Antonio, according to West Ham Football.
The well-renowned Hammers outlet reported this via X (1 July) and stated that the duo also believes that the German is better than Danny Ings.
It is added that the Irons are determined to make the Borussia Dortmund man their first-choice striker this summer.
Niclas Fullkrug is major transfer statement at West Ham
Despite the Hammers finishing ninth in the Premier League last term, it was clear that certain aspects of their team needed more TLC than others.
One of those areas in particular is that of their striker. Although Antonio and Ings have had stellar Premier League careers, the 2023/24 campaign was one to forget for both players.
Between the two, they failed to get into double figures for goals last term. This isn’t good enough for the leading strikers of a top-half Premier League side.
Whilst things such as injuries and not being chosen by David Moyes need to be considered, it’s no excuse not to perform when called upon.
There have been a plethora of strikers linked with a move to the London Stadium this summer with both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tammy Abraham being linked with a move to the capital [Corriere Della Serra].
However, Fullkrug is arguably the most exciting candidate of all and would be a stellar coup for the club.
In other West Ham news, a Hammers-linked target isn’t set to exit his club until at least 2025.
