Journalist sends ‘huge misjudgement’ warning to West Ham United after Divin Mubama contract news emerges

The potential departure of Divin Mubama would be a “huge misjudgement” by West Ham, according to Roshane Thomas.

Writing on The Atheltic website on Tuesday (31 October), the journalist said the 19-year-old is “far too talented” to not be playing for the Hammers’ U-21s, let alone the first team after it was reported on Monday (30 October) that he has turned down a new contract at the London Stadium.

He added that the England U-20 international has shown why he is a highly-rated prospect and that it is now time for the Irons to “embrace his talents” rather than “marginalise him”.

Give him a chance

It’s definitely concerning that Mubama has decided to reject a new contract at West Ham as his deal runs out at the end of the season and it doesn’t include a one-year extension option.

The Hammers are still in discussions with him and are hoping that he will change his mind, but that doesn’t look likely until his first-team opportunities improve.

The teenager showed what he can offer during the pre-season tour to Australia and he looked certain to be more involved this season.

But that hasn’t proven to be the case despite the senior forward options – Michail Antonio and Danny Ings – largely failing to impress in the opening few months of this campaign.

He deserves to at least be given a chance because we can’t afford for yet another talented youngster to move on after being undervalued at the club.
