Journalist expects West Ham United transfer for James Ward-Prowse to be done, he wants move

West Ham transfer target James Ward-Prowse wants to join the club this summer, as David Moyes targets Premier League experience, according to Jacob Steinberg via talkSPORT.

The football reporter for The Guardian shared via the digital news outlet that Ward-Prowse wants to move to West Ham, which is a deal he would expect to be completed in this transfer window, with Moyes the driving factor in their bid for the Englishman.

Moyes will target homegrown players this summer after last year’s transfer mistakes of bringing in several players from abroad who ultimately failed to adapt to the Premier League. Ward-Prowse spent ten years playing for Southampton in the Premier League before their relegation last season.

A ‘typical Moyes’ type of signing

Bringing in an English player, with plenty of Premier League experience, who is a leader on the pitch and whose main quality is excelling at set-piece situations, lines up perfectly with what Moyes views as an ideal signing for the Hammers.

With the loss of Declan Rice, Moyes is looking to strengthen his midfield as well as trying to replace the element of leadership their former captain provided, with Ward-Prowse standing out as the obvious candidate for this role.

Ward-Prowse is one of a number of midfielders West Ham have been linked to, as they reportedly made a £25million bid for his services, as well as a £37million bid for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, a verbal enquiry for Scott McTominay, and another bid for Ajax’s Edson Alvarez.

West Ham

It appears that Southampton’s captain is the East London club’s priority target for the midfield, with the deal seeming more realistic and attainable than those for other targets, with Moyes driving the move.

In other West Ham news, a Liverpool transfer update could put a spanner in the works for the Hammers.
