Josh Brownhill update emerges on Sky Sports after new West Ham reveal

West Ham and Burnley have learned the order of their Premier League opponents for the 2025/26 season, but the news came with a twist.

The Hammers will start the season with an away trip to Sunderland, while Burnley will host Wolves at Turf Moor.

Graham Potter must make a positive start to the Premier League season if he is to take the pressure off his position as manager.

However, amid the fixture announcement, there was a significant nugget of information regarding Josh Brownhill’s future.

Josh Brownhill news shared amid Burnley fixture announcement

West Ham have been linked with a move for Burnley midfielder Brownhill after a magnificent campaign in the Championship.

The Irons are said to be long admirers of the central-midfielder who is out of contract at the end of the month.

Brownhill will be available on a free transfer if he does not sign a fresh deal, and also has interest from Everton.

While Sky Sports announced the fixtures for the 2025/26 Premier League season, their reporter Peter Stevenson revealed (18 June, 09:09) important information from a source at Burnley regarding the 29-year-old’s future.

He said: “Josh Brownhill – Burnley are still awaiting a response to contract offers.”

Brownhill would be a steal for West Ham on a free transfer

While many supporters might bemoan adding newly promoted players to their mix, that would be a lazy thought process.

Brownhill has made over 100 Premier League appearances and has progressed with every season at Turf Moor.

The fact that he could be available on a free transfer will certainly prick the ears of top-flight clubs, and rightly so.

Burnley’s captain is a leader, a hard worker, and a creative threat in the hub of Scott Parker’s midfield and would be a real loss for the Clarets.

Potter would be wise to prioritise a move for Brownhill, who is an underrated star, especially after years of severely wasting transfer funds at the London Stadium.
