Jonathan David might not make transfer decision until 2025 amid West Ham United interest

Lille forward Jonathan David could wait until 2025 to decide on his future amid interest from West Ham, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper reported [20 July, page 16] that, with 12 months left on his contract, the 24-year-old is considering staying in Ligue 1 until next summer and leaving as a free agent in order to “optimise his future from an economic point of view”.

It is understood that Lille are keen to offload the striker for a fee now, with Roma also interested in the talented attacker, rather than earn nothing back on a player they signed in 2020.

West Ham United to bide time in Jonathan David transfer

The saga surrounding the Canadian striker looks to be one that could continue far into the summer transfer window, especially with David’s willingness to leave on a free transfer in 12 months.

Given his impressive goal record – 84 goals in 183 appearances for Lille – it is no wonder so many clubs are vying for the player’s signature and not willing to wait until next summer.

He also has 28 goals in 54 international caps, proving his ability on the international stage, yet David Sullivan is still hesitant about signing the 24-year-old [GiveMeSport].

David is likely to have a reduced transfer fee due to the nature of his current contract situation, but this does not seem enough to persuade Sullivan that he could be the answer to the striker problems at the London Stadium.

Julen Lopetegui currently has Michail Antonio and Danny Ings to choose from in the final third, with the former’s injury worries and the latter’s lack of game time cause for concern.

With the Hammers keen to add a forward to the ranks before the end of the month [GiveMeSport], time is ticking for Lopetegui to find his first choice, and David looks to be out of the running this summer.
