Jarrod Bowen reacts as emotional West Ham United exit confirmed

Jarrod Bowen was among those to react as Luis Guilherme became the second West Ham United player to depart in the January transfer window.

Niclas Fullkrug was the first West Ham player to leave this month, with his move to AC Milan – on an initial loan – finally going through on Friday.

Guilherme‘s move to Sporting CP has also now gone through, with the 19-year-old joining in a deal reported to be worth around £17.4million.

That is a considerable loss for the Hammers in terms of the fee, as Guilherme cost West Ham a reported £25m just 18 months ago.

More exits are expected to follow at West Ham after the confirmed departures of Fullkrug and Guilherme, hopefully making room for more arrivals in the process.

Luis Guilherme grateful to West Ham despite flop spell

It is fair to say Guilherme’s time at the London Stadium did not go to plan, but the Brazilian leaves with the best wishes of every supporter.

Guilherme was the first signing of Julen Lopetegui’s tenure and, while he did last longer than the Spaniard, his spell in East London will be just as forgettable.

In all, Guilherme played just five times in the Premier League for West Ham this season under Graham Potter and Nuno Espirito Santo combined.

The youngster took to Instagram shortly after his exit was confirmed late on Sunday to thank West Ham for helping him to fulfil a dream of his.

“I arrived at West Ham at a very young age, fulfilling one of my biggest dreams: playing in Europe and in the Premier League, one of the greatest leagues in the world, with my full focus on work,” he said.

Opportunities didn’t always come the way I expected, but dedication, commitment and focus were never lacking as I continued to grow both as a player and as a man.

“I wish I could have helped more. I wish I could have done more for you, Hammers. But in football, things don’t always go the way we want. It’s hard to leave while seeing the club going through a difficult moment, but I’ll be cheering for better days ahead.

“I want to thank everyone for this time together and for all the affection I received. Now I move on to another challenge in my career, taking with me everything I lived here and with the certainty that good things are ahead. Grateful for everything. Once a Hammer…

The message was ‘liked’ by Bowen, Lucas Paqueta, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and plenty of other West Ham players, showing Guilherme’s popularity in the dressing room.

Who will be next to leave West Ham?

The changing of the guard at Rush Green is firmly underway, with the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Nayef Aguerd and Edson Alvarez also among those to have left in the past two windows.

Others will likely follow this month, with the likes of James Ward-Prowse and Callum Marshall two other names to have been touted with an exit.

Ward-Prowse is not interested in a return to Southampton, but other clubs – potentially some elsewhere in the Premier League – will surely be circling.

Nuno’s position as West Ham manager is under huge threat, but the show must go on. With a new forward already signed and another set to follow, supporters will be hoping for one or two more deals.

And it goes without saying that what happens over these next four weeks could determine whether or not West Ham remain a top-flight club.
