Jamie Carragher shares what he’s heard about West Ham signing Premier League striker in early January swoop
Nuno Espirito Santo will be in the market to bolster West Ham’s attack in the January transfer window – if he’s still the club’s manager.
With the Irons wallowing in the Premier League’s relegation zone, Nuno’s found himself under increasing pressure at the London Stadium despite only being their manager for 94 days.
It’s already been reported in recent days that West Ham’s board will sack Nuno if his side’s form doesn’t improve, starting with Tuesday night’s meeting with Brighton in East London.
Slaven Bilic has already been mooted as a potential successor to Nuno, with talkSPORT reporting that the Croatian manager is keen on returning to the Hammers on a deal until the end of the season.
Regardless of whether Nuno stays or goes, the January transfer window is going to be vital to West Ham‘s future in the Premier League, and an early start to business next month is key, according to Jamie Carragher.

West Ham have sights set on Jorgen Strand Larsen
With Niclas Fullkrug expected to leave the London Stadium in January, West Ham’s focus is no doubt on finding a new striker to spearhead Nuno’s attack.
Callum Wilson started up front for the Irons in their clash against Brighton on Tuesday, but Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen is someone who Carragher believes the Londoners will be eyeing up after rumours he’s heard.
Jorgen Strand Larsen factfile:
- Age: 25
- Nationality: Norwegian
- Position: Striker
- Club: Wolverhampton Wanderers
- Former clubs: Sarpsborg 08, Groningen, Celta Vigo
- International record: 24 caps, four goals for Norway
“It’ll be interesting to see how early they do business and give themselves a great opportunity of winning those games,” said Carragher on Sky Sports on Tuesday night.
“Obviously, they need a striker.
“There’s talk of Strand Larsen coming in from Wolves, and Callum Wilson is playing tonight but he hasn’t been playing as of late.

“But I think they need action as soon as that window opens to give them a great opportunity in a couple of those games.”
What Wolves manager Rob Edwards has revealed
There’s no doubt that it’s been a difficult season for Wolves, who have fewer points than a triangle as we approach New Year’s Day.
The West Midlands club is rock bottom of the Premier League, with just two points to their name from 18 matches.
They’re going to be a Championship club next season, so there’s every chance that Strand Larsen will jump the sinking ship now ahead in the upcoming January transfer window.
Although he’s seen as one of Wolves’ best players, he’s scored just one goal in 16 Premier League appearances this season.
Wolves boss Rob Edwards admits it’s been a testing time for the Norwegian forward, but isn’t worrying himself with his situation in the transfer market.
“It is difficult for him, but he’s battling on,” Edwards said.
“He’s really good around the place here, working hard.”
He added: “We’ll take every situation in January on an individual basis.
“It doesn’t concern me.”
