Italian journalist: West Ham eye 23y/o Polish goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski
West Ham have enquired about Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski, according to respected journalist Nicolo Schira.
The Italian transfer guru claims the Irons are one of three Premier League clubs, alongside Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, that have asked for further information about the 23-year-old.
German giants Borussia Dortmund are also in the mix, with Schira reporting on his personal Twitter profile in February that he was valued at £17.3million by Fiorentina owner Rocco Commisso.
Dragowski has been in a number of Poland squads and he made his national team debut in 2020.
He has made a series of terrific saves this season but he hit the headlines for one against Inter Milan in February, which was labelled as a “stunning save” on the official Serie A YouTube channel.
Serie A expert James Horncastle also lauded the save on his personal Twitter profile. He said: “When a saves of the season highlight reel comes out in Serie A almost all of them will feature Inter shots. [Juan] Musso the other week. Now Dragowski. What a stop.”
Fab replacement
According to statistics by Wyscout Dragowski is middle of the road by most Serie A goalkeeping metrics.
He makes 2.53 saves per 90 but he’s towards the bottom tier for prevented goals per 90, with -0.18 and only four goalkeepers are worse off in this.
But he did post a positive score last season (0.03) and has probably suffered this season as a result of his side’s poor performance.
Fiorentina conceded 48 goals last season en route to a 10th-placed finish, but they’ve already shipped 54 this season with five games remaining, and they are firmly in the relegation mix.
But Dragowski has been highly-rated for some time and at 23, still has lots of time to develop and mature into a top-class performer.
Bringing him in would be a smart move with Lukasz Fabianski’s advancing years, though the Pole looks like he still has plenty to offer.
Maybe Dragowski could play second-fiddle for a year and learn from his compatriot, but whether that’s something he would be prepared to remains to be seen, while GSB would surely expect him to be first-choice if they are spending a fee in the region of £20million.
