Though West Ham have raised pure profit with the sales of Potts and Earthy, Allen's departure that follows is another example of a worrying trend at Rush Green.
Too many youngsters are leaving without either getting a chance with the first team or having their development looked after properly.
However, the likes of Ollie Scarles and Lewis Orford are making waves under Nuno Espirito Santo already this season.
The pair could both be successful with the Hammers in the Championship, with U21s stars Riley Hargan, Regan Clayton and Callum Leacock all there to be sent out on loan.
