How many signings West Ham could make as Michael Keane transfer talks revealed

Michael Keane has emerged as a surprise late transfer target for West Ham United.

With only five days until the 1 September deadline in England, the Hammers still need plenty of business.

Nuno Espirito Santo has only picked up one point from an available six in the Championship, but did smash Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

That win at St Mary's saw youth trusted, but while fans were happy, they still want several new additions.

With Edson Alvarez, Jean-Clair Todibo, James Ward-Prowse and El Hadji Malick Diouf set to leave, business is desperately needed.

And Keane could be one of many to come in at the London Stadium.

How many signings could West Ham make?

Several are needed to make promotion a real possibility, that has been made very clear.

The West Ham Way reports that at least three new faces are wanted before the deadline on Tuesday evening.

It's said an experienced centre-back is one of those, with Keane already in talks over a move to the capital.

The Hammers are looking at Premier League players who have been made available, and the Everton veteran is one.

With Diouf and Ward-Prowse set to bring in another £40million-plus this week, incoming business has to be prioritised.

Where would Michael Keane fit in?

Nuno has had Todibo out of his plans before relegation, with a Rush Green bust up well publicised already.

That has meant Konstantinos Mavropanos has had Max Kilman alongside him at the start of the Championship

Kilman doesn't have the fans behind him, with several huge mistakes during that awful Premier League season just gone.

Despite scoring against Burnley on the opening day, he would still likely drop straight out for Keane if signed.

Even though he is 33, the Everton defender has frequently featured in the Premier League over recent years.

With 47 Premier League appearances in the past two seasons, Nuno would welcome a defender who has featured at the top level consistently.

And having already won the Championship in his career, that kind of experience will be crucial.

To say over £200m will have been banked from sales, incoming business hasn't been good enough.

Keane has to be the start of that changing.
