Guido Rodriguez set for move to Champions League club in latest West Ham exit

Guido Rodriguez will go down as one of West Ham’s worst signings in recent years.

Rodriguez joined West Ham from Real Betis in August 2024 and has been incredibly underwhelming in the heart of midfield.

West Ham could have terminated Rodriguez’s contract in the summer transfer window, but they decided to keep him due to the lack of depth in the squad.

His only goal contribution for the Hammers came in the 3-1 win over Ipswich on in May last year, where he set the ball back for Mohammed Kudus to unleash a curling strike into the far corner.

The Argentine has played 30 times for West Ham, but quickly fell out of favour under both Graham Potter and Nuno Espirito Santo, and now could be set for a January move to Juventus.

Guido Rodriguez makes it clear he wants Juventus move

Freddie Potts has emerged as a starter for West Ham, and there is now no real need for Rodriguez to stay at the club.

Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Rodriguez has let Juventus know he’s open to joining them.

Initial discussions with West Ham suggest a loan deal until the end of the season could be agreed with Juventus, who are keen on the midfielder..

Juve manager Luciano Spalletti will take his time to evaluate potential alternatives, and it’s possible that the final decision on the defensive midfielder’s future won’t be made in the next 10 days.

However, a move does seem likely to go through as Rodriguez has made it clear he wants to play regularly in order to keep his dreams alive of competing in this summer’s World Cup.

Rodriguez’s West Ham stats

The 31-year-old has typified what West Ham have lacked in midfield over recent seasons, and that’s hard-working runners.

Stuart Pearce labelled Rodriguez ‘lazy’ after West Ham’s 3-2 loss to Wolves in the EFL Cup on 26 August 2025.

He has endured a disastrous spell in E20, and the Hammers need to get him off their wage book as soon as possible.

With the move likely to go through, supporters will be happy to see him gone, as it would allow them to look for a much better alternative.

How will Rodriguez be remembered by West Ham fans?

The fact that Rodriguez could be playing Champions League football in a matter of weeks seems laughable given the fact that West Ham are fighting for Premier League survival.

Throughout his time in East London, he has been left out of matchday squads, substituted after abject performances, and subjected to scrutiny from both the media and the supporters.

He played under three managers in under two years and never felt like a player who could be counted on during a poor run of form.

Juventus could aim to have an option to buy Rodriguez inserted in the deal, but the likelihood is that it will be a straight loan, and he will return to the London Stadium at the end of the 2025-26 season.

Unfortunately for him, Rodriguez’s return in the future is something that no West Ham fan will want to see.
